I had an emergency today. I was turned away by my vet because I could not pay for the treatment there and then. My cat is sick, and it is an ongoing issue with the vet, who saw him to extract teeth a while back, and who saw him 2 weeks ago to treat an abcess on his head.
At his most recent visit, Misty was given antibiotics to treat the abcess, and I requested a collar to stop him scratching it - the vet told me this was not necessary, and I didnt get it. Since then, he has been scratching the abcess, which had necrotising skin surounding it, and now it looks worse than ever. I got home today to a cat that howls when you try to lift him, an ugly sore on his head, and his constant drinking and lack of appetite. The neighbour has been wittering about her concerns about kidney failure, which has now added to my worry about getting a vet to treat him. The longer he goes without treatment, the worse it will get...maybe he will die i know I should have been more savvy and got him insurance, but it is something I did not think about, until his health started to deteriorate...insurance doesnt cover existing issues when the policy is taken out. I tried again today to get insurance, so that the vet would see him, but it would not cover any illness within 14days of the policy commencing. Now I think I will have to do something drastic. I dont get paid again for another 4 wks, and the cat is not getting better. there is no one to borrow the money from. How a vet can turn a sick animal away amazes me. I thought it went against their ethics, but alas no. No time to rant anymore, but if anyone can offer advice on home treatment or action I can take, then please respond. Thats awful,, especially if it is the same vet that has been treating your cat since the start,.,,, I know a vet round here that WILL treat an animal and allow u to pay later...
are there any cat rescues near u that could help with funding vet costs.. or a local sspca... im sure in the highlands what u do is call ure nearest sspace and then they direct u to a local vet that is signed up to do free treatment although i may be wrong heres some links Cat Rescue and Rehoming Shelters in the Highlands, Scotland
