Default Hatching Chickens and quails!

Couldn't help it. You try having an incubator that is the size of a fridge freezer lol and not hatching anything for months!
So I got some chicken eggs and some quail eggs. Was supposed to be due tomorrow but had 2 light sussex, 2 legbars and 1 blue silkie hatched yesterday and so far 12 Chinese Painted Quails!
God I love CPQ chicks, they are sooooooo small, can sit on a penny with hardly anything over the edge they are just sooooo cute! Not ready come out the bator yet but They are in the hatching section anyway. Kids have been cooooing over them before tea.

Aye, They either need an avairy or a soft mesh topped pen for them.
How big egg wise are you needing? CPQ eggs are like caburys mini eggs if not smaller. Japanese Quail eggs are like the size of mini cream eggs and a tad smaller.

You can only keep one male in a group of girls unless they have a lot of space and a lot of girls to go round.

how noisy are quails?

i love the little things always have, but i'm always put off keeping birds due to childhood memories of all of Dad's birds squacking, whistling, screeching etc and generally driving me crazy!

plus i don't think my neighbours would be too pleased if i had noisy birds either!

We had a male Japanese brought into the sanctuary as he was found at the side of the road. He is soooooooooo tame and loves to sit on your foot, we have just aquired a wife for him.I love the noise he makes even though he is loud. We also have a pair of Bob Whites and a trio of CPQ but these arent very tame at all (They are all kept in different aviaries)

Just the one? God the poor hen she'll be raped to death. But sure you were already told that tho. So in the knowledge that she would be raped to death you still just got him the one? And a sanc going out and buying something? Not a sanc me thinks, just a glorified collection.

Should have rehomed it to someone who knows better or just kept him on his own in a mixed avairy. But such is good advice... always falls on thick erm deaf ears.
