Default Un-litter training a kitten

Hi all,

We have a 7 month old bundle of "fun" male kitten,

He has now been nutered, microchipped and is allowed outside, which he loves.

the problem is, how to get him to do his business outside, rather than staying out all day, coming in, and proceeding to dump in his litter tray, before going back out again,

I have spread some of his litter outside on a patch of gravvely, stony grassy stuff, hoping he would twig and start to do it outside,

We have even left his litter tray outside (in good weather which we are not getting allot of lately) and he still waits till it comes in

any tips would be appreciated....

i would just keep perservering with what you are doing, what you are doing has worked for all of my cats.. i did put the old dirty litter under a bush (somewhere out of the way and secure) that seemed to work for my lot.

I think the fact he still uses his tray is a good thing really

if you ever have to bob out and he is still in and you end up gone longer than expected where is he gonna go loo ?

I would rather mine still use the litter tray than have to do it on the floor, in the bath or sink as they dont have access to a toilet area

i think they want him to go utside when they are around, thats what we do.. ours do theur stuff outside, unless they are locked in orrr at night time.. in the day i woudl prefer if they did it outside (which they do)

I started letting my litter of kittens out in the back yard to explore, with their mum, from about 6 weeks old. They naturally gravitated to a patch in the corner where I'd dumped some old compost from hanging baskets, and were wonderful to see using it very diligently. Maybe your garden just needs you to add a patch of loose soil/sand/compost to attract your cat, the looser and lighter the better - you can't expect them to choose to dig in thick mud or gravel or flower beds at this time of the year.

I wouldn't get rid of the litter tray yet he is still to little to go that long without going to a loo,

the cats have a cat flap, so can get out when and if they need to, and he certainly knows how to use that (its his latest favourite toy, he leaps in and out of it for hours, lol bless him)

simple - do not clean out the litter tray. i did this with my cat, instantly worked as cats are usually really clean animals and they don't like standing in their own turd. i suggested it to a friend with their cats, and its worked on theirs too. its worth a shot...

never thought of that, I clean it diligently for him every day (well the hubby does, as the sight of poo makes me heave )

will give it a shot,

And if it doesnt work the cat will use elsewhere in the house

I have 17 cats and they all come back in to use the littertrays (I have 11 cat trays) especially during the winter. I like them using the trays as I can keep an eye on who is doing what and pick up any problems in the early stages
