Whats the best age to have your dog castrated.

It depends on the breed and circumstances really. I had my small dogs castrated at 8 months and my Rottie at 16 months

as shell said it depends alot on breed/size.

Also depends on temperament. I wouldn't neuter a particularly scaredy dog.

i'd wait until he is a year, unless there is a particular reason for wanting him done early as poss?

No theres no particular reason, i just wondered so i can get him done when the time is right

make sure he has finished growing! some vets will try and push you into getting them done far far too early in my opinion.
talk to your vet for advice when to get him done but dont feel bullied into getting him done too soon

Springers aren't particularly big, and depending on his temperament I would get it out of the way at 5-6 months old. Otherwise the big boy behaviour becomes habit, so any sexual behaviours he develops may not go away if he's neutered later.

Our previous vet had a thing about castrating dogs and used to make everyone attend a pre operation counselling session so he could explain that it would turn the dog into a cabbage Needless to say he is no longer our vet
