we have bought a pup but its not ready for a few weeks yet, we have read alot about them, but find alot of the info online is quite contradicting, wanted someone with one to tell us a bit about what there experiences with them are like, how they found training them any tips, what they are like with other dogs, animals and people (as thats what we are finding quite contradicting).

We appreciate that they are a powerful, dominent breed thats gonna take firm handling, and we are prepared for that, just wanted some people with them or with knowledge of them to share their experiences.

Default american bulldogs

My mums got one and shes a pensioner. She got lumbered. The bitch is six now, very loving and loyal with who she knows, fabulous with all kids but dominant with other dogs.Doesnt chase livestock but we don't like the way she looks at cats.Although to be fair, she hasn't lived with any small furries. For a big heavy dog she needs quite a lot of exercise. My mum also has a bull mastiff and he is a lot lower energy and much less dominant. She will be told though and has recently accepted a fourteen year old stafford into the family with just a hard stare of distain. No dogs are tolerated around her food bowl but again there is no problem with people around her when she's eating. Before her my mum had mainly had bull mastiffs and we think they are more mellow with less issues. Not the sharpest needle in the box when it comes to training but clean and never really chewed or did anything awful as a pup.

Thanks for the reply Sarah. We have a 2 year old staffy at the moment, and two cats, so bringing her in as a pup shes going to be socialised with the other animals in the house from a young age. I cant wait to pick her up
