There are a few methods. We used to keep the cat confined to a room overnight and then let them out to the litter tray in the morning and armed with a piece of tin foil made into a tray I would slip it under their bum when they sat on the litter tray and catch it.

A friend of mine puts some torn up strips of kitchen roll into a litter tray and confines the cat to the room with that tray, then as soon as it 'goes' she rushes over and squeezes the wee out of the kitchen roll into a bottle.

some vets keep a supply of non-porous balls that you can put into a litter tray instead of 'normal' cat litter and then you just pour the wee off after the cat's been.

I'm sure someone else will come along soon and offer other methods, but those come to mind at the minute.

Thankfully none of the cats we knew about died - but all required stitches, bandages, medication etc and all were very very nervous afterwards (naturally). They never caught anyone, though we all had our suspicions of who was doing it (we just couldn't prove it). Horrible people

Urrrghhh, squeezing wee from kitchen roll!!!!!!

When I've had to collect urine samples I use a clean, plastic plant pot saucer - it's shallow enough to slide under their bottoms when they're in the litter tray, then pour into a small jar etc. Worked for me!

I usually confine the cat to a room with a litter tray with a tiny amount of
their usual litter. Its easy to pour off the urine.

OR

You can get a small packet of non porous litter from the vets which you use in place of normal litter

OR

If you cant get a sample take the cat to the vets and explain her symptoms and he will be able to express enough urine for a test

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try the plant pot one as it seems easier

Good Luck!

She'll probably give you one of those withering looks as if to ask what you're doing loitering behind her while she's having a 'private moment'!!
