Default wry neck and my rabbit

hi, we rushed our rabbit to the vet today as noticed last night his neck was tilted to one side and he would not move it, also been off food since sunday.

they have diagnosed the above gave him 2 injections, one i know was a steriod, he has been given panacur, an antibiotic and some food to inject 4 x day, he is back tomor maybe for another injection,( hubby took him so i can only say what was said 2nd hand)

will my rabbit be okay how long will it take, he is only 4 months old, and is half lion head, i have no idea how he got it?

depends if they are treating him for wryneck or e cuniculi.

if its e cuniculi bunny needs panacur for a least 2 weeks to get rid of it.
hopefully it isnt wryneck.

sounds like your vet is covering all the angles then,

could be the baytril is in case its an ear infection affecting his balance, you wouldnt eat if everything was upside down and you felt sick and wobbily!

and the panacur paste to kill the bugs that cause floppy bunny, ( they live in the brain ) if it is that, bunny would have been infected as a baby probly, they pick it up from other bunnies urine.

the first sign of that is usually bunny drinking more, as it affects the kidneys.

as s/he been drinking and weeing a lot?

Panacur needs to be for 28 days if you think there is active infection. After 21 days (the preiod of time the virus can stay "alive" on surfaces), clean all bedding and surrounding area's carefully.

Hope your bunny is ok.

thanks for the 28day advice, my vet said 10 days, will ask about this on saturday.

harry has eaten so much today, which is a good sign yes, my children are so upset at seeing him with a tilted neck as he looks so uncomftable the poor thing.

The 10 day thing seems to be a common error. A preventative course is 9 days, this is usually done every 3 - 6 months.

One of my bunnies Flynn ended up paralysed at his back legs with EC. It was a Sunday and my brill vet was closed, so i had to see an emergency vet. She strongly suggested PTS, but i refused, stating i wanted to fight for my boy. She then said a 9 day course of panacur, i had to correct her, and she is a vet! After daily physio, medicine and a lot of dedication, Flynn can walk again. Bunnies with disabilities can cope.

I have another bunny Summer, who has EC beofre i rescued her. Sadly it affected her eyes and she lost an eye due to it. But again, she has adjusted and learnt to deal with it.

There is a chance your bunnies head wont go back to the way it was. Even if he has a permanent head tilt, he can still live a full and enjoyable life, you might just need to make some changes to make things easier. It does look uncomfortable, but it wont bother him too much.

Its good that Harry is eating, making sure he eats, drinks and goes to the toilet is the main thing
