The sire (harlie) was an astrex coated baby. My lines tend to pop out astrex coats at times. iv even had the hairless gene in my lines.

iv had many curley coated babys born here, they always molt in to eclips coat but then there babys often take on the astrex baby coats, i gave some away to a breeder working on the astrex.

I think i may have pics somewhere of astrex coats iv produced. but its not what i want just somthing that comes about.

how can you say they have no harlie markings when there tummys are harlie marked???

I've seen rabbits like this before - an accidental mating between a harlequin and a Tan - the tan markings had harlequin brindling/spotting within them.

so these rabbits arent a "new" colour/marked rex?

We have rats with odd markings turn up in our marked litters.

We call them...mismarks. Because they're not a new variety, just a poor example of the one you're breeding for.

If every mismark was a new variety, I imagine show days would go on for weeks, they're long enough as it is

the harlequin could be agouti based a lot are, & its possible that there could be a castor in there.

no fur fur grows curley but once they hit 1st molt they lose the curles. its just the resssive gene showing up.

And no i know for the moment they are not marked right and NO you wouldnt be able to show them not untill i think its if you can breed them like it for 5 generations then they get looked at or summin i dunno everything about that side of stuff.

i said its just a cock up in the gentics where both have become vissable on the 2 kits. and i named em quinotters

Can I be rude and stick my beak in for a second and ask a few questions? please no-one flip at me, just mere questions:
1. Does it honestly matter? these are beautiful babiesthey are healthy and its all that matters right?

2. Projects? What sort of projects?
and lastly 3. Shouldnt this be more about the love for the bunnies than their colour or pattern or size??? I read people go on and on about their colours and patterns and not about how wonderful the bunny itself! We have a bunny and he is a dwarf lop harlie. What a lovely boy he truely is! Big boy that has a huge pen and loves carrots and playing in his tunnel. When someone asks about him I tell them he is playful and Im proud of his characer not that he is purebred dwarf lop and Im proud he is harlie...

Ok I know some-one is going to have a dig at me now but I'm just trying to point out how I see

BTW STUNNING BABIES so tempted to get another bunny to join ours but Prince likes his space bless him, so spoilt!

TBH, I used to breed standard Rex and it's not unusual for them to be curly as youngsters... they later lose it. No Astrex in my lines either.... but you would not keep the curly ones for show or breeding as it means their coat will have the wrong texture - too soft.

On the other hand I had a *genuine* Astrex pop up once in my line of purebred standard Magpie Harlequins (mum was a Harlequin Club BIS winner!). He was like nothing you'd ever seen before, his coat wasn't just curly it was 'bobbly' as well. Sadly he died as a youngster - these random recessives that pop up can sometimes be very weak.

The ones I saw had been nicknamed Tanniquins Not a cock-up really, but an interesting interplay between the e(j) harlequin gene and a(t), there might be some connection with e(j) and wide band as well. Very interesting to those who love there genetics!
