I like the look of pugs but would never own one due to the large number of hereditary problems associated with the breed. There are loads of unscrupulous people out there selling unregistered puppies from adults who'v never been tested for :
1. Luxating Patellas
2. Pigmentary Keratitis
3. Keratoconjunctivitis
4. Progressive Retinal atrophy
5. Legge-Calve-Perthes Disease
6. Heart Disease
7. Renal Disease
8. Liver Disease
9. Portosystemic Shunts
10. Pug Dog Encephalitis
11. Seizure Disorders
12. Hemiverfebrae
13. Collapsing Larynx or Trachea
14. Hypoplastic Trachea
15. Hip Dysplasia
16. Atopy
17. Entropion
18. Distichia
19. Lagophthaimus
20. Elongated Palate
21. Everted Laryngeal Saccule
22. Laryngeal polyps
23. Dystocia
24. Wry mouth
25. Hypothyroidism

These types of people only see £££££ instead of a dog. Scum of the earth is what I call them.

if that last post was aimed at me i think ur taking it way outta line cos im not after money, i bred my bitch once and got her spayed. just cos mine are not registered doesnt mean they have loadsa problems, my dogs visit the vets for regular checkups and ive never had a problem with them. ive had pugs for a very long time and i know the problems that come with them but not every pug will have these. i just want to clear summit up..
im not a registered breeder who rescues animals and just keeps bredin them. im not after money atall.i want to get my dog neutered i just wanted to know if there was anyone out there looking for a male pug for stud as when i wanted one a few yrs back to breed another of my bitches i couldnt find one.i gave my dogs a very good home when i rescued them.

a 'check up' at the vet won't tell if they have legge-perthes, nor Hip displasia or any number of problems. Only proper testing will tell this and it has to be done at a specialist centre and in the case of HD, under general anaesthetic. The fact that you aren't even aware whether your dogs have these problems, and haven't bothered to have them tested, speaks volumes.

How long have you had pugs for and how come you weren't aware of the health issues? How come you never had bought pugs with the proper paperwork all properly health tested?

No, you are an unlicenced breeder who rescued some pugs, then set about breeding them to make a bit of cash on the side.

There are plenty of quality registered health tested pugs out there to be used by people who know the background and pedigree of their dogs. Why would anyone want to use an untested unregistered dog who might not even be pure bred? The fact that no breeder would allow you to use their dog on your bitch speaks volumes. If indeed you weren't able to find a good stud dog, then perhaps you weren't able to contact the pug club, look on pug websites, find pug breeders who show their dogs, or look on the kennel club site. I bet you I could find half a dozen stud dogs within the next half hour if I set my mind to it and I wouldn't say that I am super intelligent.
You rescued a dog and you decided to make some cash by breeding him. That is unethical, immoral and downright wrong.
If you want to get him neutered, then just get him neutered, don't hawk the poor lad all around the flipping internet to be used on any bitches without health testing him and without making sure the bitch is also free of diseases which she could give to him. For someone who's supposed to have owned pugs for a long time, you don't appear to know much.

i know enough thanx.. the reason my pugs have never been tested "properly" is because they are my PETS not money making machines.. think ur taking this far too far!! your making me out to be a breeder who is after one thing ... cash and im clearly not if u took in what i said.
not every dog has to be kc reg. my dogs are pedigrees but i never got there papers due to them being rescues.
i dont want to drag my dog round the internet atall. when i wanted to breed my pug i remember finding it hard to find a pug that was not kc reg and who wasnt too far from myself. i wanted to know the dog was fine with my bitch before dragging them half way around the country to meet up and breed.
correct me if im wrong but doesnt a pedigree show pug just get shown to make money! and also if im right dont a breeder just keep breeding there pugs until they get that perfect one to show.
have you ever owned a pug?
yet again my dogs are my life , i care for them deeply and wouldnt want any harm to come to them but i know personally that they are healthy and they dont need to be kc reg and tested to me. my eldest dog i rescued from a breeder and bred and bred her until she couldnt breed no more. wen i got her she had hernias and a prlapsed womb so i had her spayed straight away and shes my pride and joy.she has problems such as cancer and epilepsy but doesnt always mean her parents had it. if my dogs had any problems i would deal with it. this post was only on here just incase any one was interested.
