Default cat in the kitchen

Little advice please cat lovers.....

My kitten George doesn't seem to like his cat bed, his cat tent or even a blanket left on the lounge floor. When i'm out / bed or even when my backs turned he keeps getting on my work services and sleeping on the microwave.
I've removed him everytime i've caught him there.
I'm starting to worry as it's a very small gap, and worried he'll end up stuck as he grows. Plus i don't really want him on the services for hygiene reasons. Plus there's also the worry of me absent mindedly switching m'wave on with him on top!
I have no kitchen door from the lounge so can't lock him out.
Any tips on how to stop him getting up?
Thanks

He does it because cats like to sleep high up. Is there not another high surface you can put a bed on for him. My cats are forever on the work surfaces but I just bleach them and use chopping boards when preparing food. Ive never manged to make anyone ill yet

My lot sleep on top of the 2 large Vivs I have as cats are attracted to heat

Through past experience on having cats i knew they liked to sleep up high. So there's a blanket on the floor, and the cat tent in the unit in kitchen and his bed is on another cabinet.
We put them there when got him so he could watch the dog from a safe distance.
I clean surfaces down before cook anyway (my OH is a VERY messy cook) so that's not really an issue i suppose. Esp considering there's never any dirty dishes - i have dish related OCD.
Just worried about the daft sod getting stuck when he gets bigger!! - or me forgetting he's there and switching it on.
At least he's progressed from getting in the washer whenever i unloaded / loaded it. He's a gorgeous boy, which is lucky. Cos i swear we left his brains at the previous owners!!

If the gap's not that big could you not wedge something in it? Maybe a towel or blanket that can be taken out and washed every now and again to stop it going manky? Lol, one of my mum's cats used to sleep in the washing machine....it was all fine until she didn't realise he was in there and switched it on one day! Bless him, he was absolutely fine and was back in it the next day! I'm pretty sure his brains got left somewhere too

I can't really wedge anything in there as the air vents are on the top. He really isn't very bright. He's gone through the recycling box and cut his nose on a corned beef tin whilst tryin to lick the bottom. I don't think i'm destined to have smart animals!
