Default Damned baby hamsters!!!!

I went into the shed yesterday to find a baby hamster sitting happily on top of a mouse cage. I realised that there were 6 babies out but found 5 of them very quickly.

I was in a hurry so I had to leave the 6th and go out, on returning I caught a little baby who had found her way into the big black bucket,.......Voila..you would think..job done.

Not my day..She was from a different litter of babies who had also chewed their way out of the tub cages I use for babies.

Anyway not long before her 5 bro's and sisters were found along with the errant baby from the first litter.

I've decided tub cages are no good for baby syrians so I'm going to buy some more wire cages I cant' be doing with all this crawling around on the shed fllor being laughed at by baby hamsters.
The little sods were totally taking the micheal out of me for over an hour and a half.

Take note...

I have been using RUB's for years and this is the first, and second, time it's happened....all you need are persistant babies.

I have mesh on the sides with the wire on the inside but it was the actual plastic they chewed through.

They do look rather miffed today though being in wire cages and not being able to get out.

I keep all my hamster species in RUBS, purley because they can't chew the side as there flat. I also, like stated above put the air holes further up to avoid even the most annoying hamsters getting out. Consider yourself lucky.. if my get out.. and believe me - pets in the past have. I have them crawling over my face and sleeping on my pillow.. untill caught. I need to get myself a pet room me thinks.

Off to talk to dad

Bless their miffed faces!

I replaced the pervious RUBS as i made the holes big enough for them to get thir mouths round and they nibbled them till a few air holes joined and were able to get out

Now the holes are much smaller and higher up, even the adult syrians cant reach them stood on their back feet

I mated my dove tort last night, I may have baby torts sooon Do you have any pictures of any of your dove torts? Ive never seen one other than mine

Again..Take note..OH but they can chew the 'flat' sides as I found out. I dont' have 'airholes' in my RUB's as I use mesh panels that are fitted to the insides so no chewing in those areas.

Again I dont' put airholes in the tubs at all I use mesh panels that have never been chewed.

I can get some pics if you like but my dove torts are nearly all tort and white now. I'm in the process of 'making' dove torts but I only have two black torts with no white but they do carry the gene to produce dove torts!!!!!

Who/what have you mated your doe to???

Spirit,,

Yes they are all well cute.

I wean males at around 4.5 weeks and does at around 5.5 weeks unless I'm keeping any does then I leave the ones I'm keeping with Mum unless I wantt o rebreed her..I've kept mothers with daughteres for upto 6 months before.

Thanks for that, mine are 4 weeks this weekend and was going to move them all out, but may decide on a female to keep, as we've already chosen a keeper male but he'll be coming out soon with the others. Then i'm ok to keep the babies together until 6 weeks right, then they need seperating?
