Need more info eg age of dog, history, what methods you've tried...
If you're training a pup you need to know that they cant hold their bladder long, so they wont go all day without peeing. You need to let them out every 15-30 mins to start with (yes, through the night too unless you're crate training), then gradually stretch it out. Let them out when they wake up, let them out before they go to sleep, let them out after big playing sessions, let them out after every meal. Let them out if you see them circling. Let them out even if they're in the process of weeing (pick them up and carry them outside to finish if you have to). Older pups and adults - start at half hourly intervals, then stretch out gradually til they're trained. Average dog picks it up very very quickly, but some who have been trained in other manners (eg paper training) could take a long time. Biggest most important thing of all - dont punish them if they get it wrong. If you come home to a wee/poo, dont shout at them, or moan or even grumble, just act as if nothing has happened and clean it up quietly. A dog wont understand that he's done something wrong unless you catch him in the act, so you'll only have a very confused doggy ("why's he telling me off? how did that poo get there?") who will assume he's getting punished for poo being in the room, but have no idea that it was connected to him pooing in the wrong place. Instead he'll carry on pooing in the house, just doing it in hidden places, or even moving on to coprophagia (eating his own poo). So take out often, praise like mad when they get it right, dont come inside til they've done something (even if it's hours - wrap up warm!), and ignore any mistakes. Good luck! |

Get rid of the mats, pronto. They just make the whole thing take ten times longer, and then you wont be able to leave anything vaguely mat like on the floor without it being peed/pood on. Not good if you like to spread out the newspapers for a good read lol. |

Im confused, in your first post you have said about house training tips and in the latest said that he isnt pooing.
Do you need tips on the training side of this or are you concerned with him from a medical side? |

It sounds a little like you've not researched having a dog and maybe this was a spur of the moment choice (not saying this is the case but it does sound that way). This is very basic training, surely his/her breeder or the rescue gave you some advice before you got him/her?
