Default New kittys home-Couple of questions

Hi
Someof you will know iv been asking cat questions over the last few days. Im really glad to say that the cat we wnet to see today came home with us.
Hes gorgeous. Pure white, really long tail and beautiful eyes.
Due to the way he was found he is still skinny so needs to put somemore weight on. Hes been vet checked. Vet thinks hes about 2-3 and hes already nuetered. Hes incrediably friendly been exploring the house, had something to eat and drink and already used his litter tray.
Iv got a couple of questions
1. Hes been exploring and jumping up for cuddles but he is crying alot. Is this because he just getting used to the sounds and smells of a new house?
2. The lady said hes on 1 tin of wet food a day with dry food left out for him to eat when he likes. Is there anything else we can do/feed to help with his weight gain?
Yes I know I need to get some pictures which I will asap, and we are struggling for a name aswell.
Thanks

He sounds gorgeous The crying worries me though as although cats can do this in a new home it is also a sign of deafness that white cats are prone to. I have a deaf white cat with green eyes and when Boo first came home he meowed constantly. Try dropping a pan lid or similar about six feet behind him and see if he hears the noise. Deaf cats are fine when they are kept indoors and other than mine not hearing feeding time etc he acts like a normal cat. He does sleep with his forehead pressed on the base of the bed or floor as if he feels vibrations he wakes up.

Feed your boy a good quality cat kibble and he will soon put weight on

Hes been checked by a vet and didnt mention anything about that. However I dont think he is. Hes was sat on the other side of the room he couldnt see my but sharp came running when I opened a pack of Hobnobs.
Did get me thinking. Hes been kept up a caravan for about a month as the person who found him has cats who dont like other cats so I wonder if its because he hasnt been in a house for w hile. The think he was outdoor for around 2-3 months before they found him nearly dead under the hedge.

Hes lush I was in love with his picture as soon as I saw it but in real life hes even better. He comes over and flops in front and loves being rubbed all over!

Just trying some names. He responded to Dude earlier but im trying some other names first before settling on that. Really like the name Jacob

Your vet may not have considered checking his hearing, because it's generally accepted that pure white cats with blue eyes are deaf, it's less common for pure white cats with green or hazel eyes to be deaf, but as Shell has pointed out it does happen!

If you're sure that he didn't see you open the packet of Hobnobs, then he isn't deaf, but just double check to be sure. If he's not deaf then it must just be the strangeness of the changes in his life. I'm sure he'll settle down in a day or two. At least he isn't frightened and hiding away, which a lot of adult cats do when they are taken to their new home.

A full tin of wet food and ad lib dried food should be enough to get him to put weight on, but don't forget that tinned food is 60% or so water, so won't have the feeding quality that the dried complete cat food has.
