People coming to view your pups - PLEASE BE CAREFULL

My house got broken into and my adult dogs were stolen

Please please be carefull when people come around!!! i have learnt the hard way!! yes it can happen to you

Take all car registration details of people who visit you
Take there land line numbers and address
Dont have all your dogs on show

Another suggestion - Write down a description of the people straight after they have gone so you have a description to give to police. (Height, weight, eye colour etc)

Although im near enough 100 miles away ill get that post printed and stick it up at work incase they come in there.

You never know they can end up anywhere when they are stolen.

I know with the current recession it's becoming more difficult to find buyers and so sellers have no choice but to go the the more anonymous sites and papers (Preloved etc). But the ideal must be to rehome as close to word as mouth and/or local as you can. The wider the advertising the more chance of it being spotted by the wrong person.

The problem if someone's dodgy is that by the time you're suspicous of them they already have your address, and that's all they need. They can then wait to snoop around until you're out at work or whatever.

I don't think it's unreasonable to take someone's details with the excuse that you'll get back to them with an appointment date and time. Name and phone number. If they can only give a mobile number politely explain that for security reasons you will not be able to offer them a viewing.

Only when you make the return call and therefore verify the number, give out your address.

Anyone genuine should not be put off by this. In fact I'd be impressed that a breeder was being so careful about their pups.
