Default ferret with sores :(

I have a male ferret that has started getting sores around his penis area and bum. The vet is unsure what it could be but suggested it could be urine stains. Hes been on antibiotics for a weeks and it cleared more of it up, thats the antibiotics have ended it seems to be coming back much worse.
His cage is cleaned daily and he lives in a 9x9x6 chicken coop so he has plently of room.

I have got a new male ferrets that ive had for 6 months now that is not neutered where as todd is, both the boys scent all the time. Could it be over scenting?

Is cage material is cat litter in the litter trays and saw dust in the indoor house?

Hes doing back the vets tonight, but has anybody else got any ideas??
I will try a get a picture at some point.

Sounds like he's been over-scenting, over time it can cause the bladder to weaken thus leaving him 'scenting' (effectively, temporarily incontinent) all the time. Get the other one the snip is possible, let them calm down then see how they are from them. If the Vet can't detect anything else (have you had him scanned for kidney/bladder stones or sludge?) then I'd take a shot at using Propalin syrup for a few weeks (give it at least a week to start working) and see how he goes on that.

I would have the other one castrated as well to try and stop the scenting.
The entire one is scent marking cause he is coming into season and the other is doing it on top I imagine.
Try to eliminate the scenting as a start by getting his companion neutered.

just got back from the vets, hes said that he doesnt need anymore antibiotics an that all i need to do is put sudocrem on it every day. Ive also books the un-neutered ferret into be neutered tomorrow. Hopefully this will stop the problem. Ive added some pics aswell to see wthat other people think.

The sore is more in the bottom left hand side of the pic, you cannot see it properly but its just a bit smaller than a 5p piece. Its also very sweaty around that area and a little gooey sometimes :S

That looks sore!!!

Is he overweight? I would stop the shavings for now as some are allergic to it and it won't help when it sticks.

How long has he been neutered for as he shouldn't be scenting at all regardless of another entire in there if he has been done a while.

hey, no hes not over weight. Yes ill stop the shavings and see if that makes a difference. what would you suggest for treatment then as the vet said just sudacreme should work. Hes been neutered now for around a year and a half so quite a while.

Sudacreme will get rid of the sores, but it wont treat the problem. It really does look like he's got urine scolds from being incontinent, so I'd follow that up and see if the Vet will treat for it if there's no sign of anything else.

I thought that about the scenting. Howecer ive watched him over the last couple of days and where ever the un-neutered ferrets marks hes marking the same spot right behind him. All this is driving me mad, im having to have my other ferret put down due to a tumor in his ear this week aswell

Default Update

Heres a little bit of an update:-

Its been two weeks nearly since i had my other ferret castrated and todds sores have completely cleared up :S its really strange, even the vet isnt completely sure what it was.

I treated todd with Bepanthen which is like sudocreme just 100x better and is usually used for nappy rash on babies

Hopefully get some pics up soon to show the difference

Do Ferrets get vent disease? Rabbits can get it (it's a sexually transmitted disease & hard to get rid of). Just a thought as it looks similar to pics i've seen of vent disease in Rabbits. I have no experience with Ferrets so is just a thought i had (only experience i've had was when i was younger i had a friends young Ferret hanging off my wrist & the bugger wouldn't let go!!!).
