Default Bird Avairy

I've talked my other half in to letting me have an avairy. I've never had one before. I'd like to keep chickens and provide a home to unwanted caged birds.

Can i keep both together and are there any other considerations to take in to account such as mice??? I have a 6ft panelled garden so foxes would be unlikely however they will be thought about in areas such as safety.

the smaller chickens do fine i dont kno with the bigger ones because i have only fept smaller ones in with my parakeets and a good thing to do is have a concrete bottom stop rats making hole and getting your birds 1 by 1 and they will if its not secure they have taken birds from me before luckily it was only a quail not 1 of my parakeets (and im talking about things you diddnt ask about but hope what i have told you helps) and wb if you need any advice as im now sharing a avairy off about 45 parakeets and know abit about birds lol

I recently built a platform for a ferret court so would be doing the same again but was planning to put soil on top of concreted slabs to allow the chooks to scratch and dig.

I was also planning to hatch and keep nankins. Which are the smaller chickens.

the smaller chickens do do fine maybe put like a sheet of wire mesh under the soil maybe about half a foot then that should stop rats. and as for chickens bantams are realy cool ther are loads of types but the silkies are my fave. and if you want differnt types of chicken in the same avairy just get the small ones (eg) the differnt types of bantams because if you get bigger ones they will bully and fight with the smaller ones
