did your new ferret die of distemper or something else?

are you using the same cage that you three previous ferrets used?

I read about this and was told that unless my ferrets were walking on public land where they will be exposed to it more than my back garden then i didn't need to worry about it. My ferrets don't go any further than my garden and my two dogs are vaccinated against it and i don't have any visiting dogs so i didn't think i needed to worry.

but only post mortems can confirm it.

Lots of ferrets died earlier this year all over the country and vets were diagnosing and confirming it as distemper.
However all the post mortems came back with corona virus.

^^^ this

Only a proper post mortem can confirm the cause of death and there are many other potential infectious causes of ferret mortality. That said, I would generally recommend vaccination against Distemper

distemper can be gotten even if they never go out, as you can bring it in the house on your clothes/shoes etc.

Louie is vacinated against distemper, after the jamp he did get a crusty/scabby bottom lip/chin which made me worry alot, but the vets told me that as its alive vaccine he might get a symptom but not to worry. After that I would have to think long and hard about having jabbed a second time, but I know lots of ferrets that have been jabbed and all be fine so I would deffo get it done again with another ferret.

I had my girlies vaccinated as babies and will maybe have them done again in a couple of years but given the risk of ferrets and jabs I'm wary of having it done every year.

This whole coronavirus thing is pretty damned scary. I take it your fuzzies are at risk even if they don't have contact with other ferts?
