Pregnant neutered cat

Hey all, I was given. Female cat a few months back by a friend of a friend. I was told that she had been neutered and vaccinated but I have a feeling that she is pregnant. Her nipples are pretty big and rather visible and she is nowhere as stream lined as she was a few weeks ago. Any way I can guess how far on she is or when she is due? And any advice much appreciated. Oh, and when can I get her neutered after she has given birth?

Yeah a vet will tell you how far, but you could always get her done whilst she is pregnant if you are comfortable with such a thing.

If her nipples are up and she is gaining weight I'd say in the region of 4.5 6 weeks pregnant so only 3-4.5 weeks to go.
You can neuter after around 8 weeks of birth unless you can keep her in a little longer to give her a while longer to wean the kittens.

Of course if she is speyed it could be some other medical issue so I'd probably have her checked out anyway!

how old is she, do you know? As the whole uterine tract and ovaries are removed in the spay, and it's not a complicated op it would be highly unusual for this to happen! Her nipples may be larger due to litters had before speying. A vet can feel her abdomen to check what is causing the distention. Any signs of ill health or behavioural changes?

I think a trip to the vets might be advisable just to be sure.

Are you saying her nipples are larger and more prominent than they were when you got her, or have you just noticed? if she's had kittens before they will be bigger than a kitten who has never had a litter, but a swollen belly can be other things than a pregnancy, so I'd have her to the vets and get her checked out, if she was mine.

I had this happen with one of mine, turns out she had a hernia and it caused hormonal stuff to happen. Either way, have her checked, the vet can tell you what's going on and if she is pregnant can usually make a guess at time and even how many littluns to expect.

Could be a phantom pregnancy if a little of the womb was left behind during neutering. If she is pregnant you can get her neutered as soon as the kittens are weaned (but obviously she can't go outside before this).

As per others, a vet trip in order especially to rule out any other nasties.

chances are they told pokies about the neutering so you`d take her in.
i had it done to me years ago.

will she let you look at the nipples?
if she is pregnant her areolas will be noticably pink with the hormone changes......and as she gets fatter they lil ones will start to kick.

if she isnt `pinking up` best to get her checked out at the vets, in case theres another issue going on........

You are right. I took her the vets and she is deffinatley pregnant vet said she should be due in 2-3 weeks. I am gutted I was lied too but at least now ICANN get her done in a few months and KNOW she has been done. my kids are thrilled.......me and the kids dad have just split up so I'm happy that the kids have something to look forward too but my girl cat is so small. Vet said she would be fine as cats are very independent when it comes to birthing and raising kittens
