Default Boyfriends bought me two rats! Advice needed please

Well i've mentioned quite a few times that i'd love some rats and well T'other halfs just got me two little female rats for xmas (totally unexpected), so just want to confirm that everythings okay.

For substrate they came with sawdust but taken them off that and i'm going to be using newspaper..partially shredded, and some left whole for them to shred.

In a temp cage atm until we get the lounge finished.only in it for two weeks
Amazon.co.uk: Rat Cage With Wheel And Floor (23 X 12 X 18" Ht): Garden & Outdoors < think it's that one.

Then going to get a Jenny cage as I heard these were best for two rats? Can anyone recommend a supplier of these?

ok they have an egg box to chew, toilet roll tube, wooden gnaw block, and a chocolate flavored rope or something lol

The food the breeder and shop recommended to him was Supa Rat Excel.(by Burgess) Just wondering if anyone uses this and if you would recommend it. If not what would you recommend as i really want everything to be perfect for my little girls.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Also i'll put some piccys up later for some photo Id's. he said the breeder told him one was a normal husky? and the other is a sandy coloured husky(has red eyes tho )? (not up on my rats tho..corn snakes are much less confusing )

sorry for the late night ramble i'm just really giddy lol

oh forgot to add if there is anything else you can give me, tips and ideas wise i'll be really really greatful

Hi,

You'll have fun with them.
With only two a normal rat food should be fine although I mix my own as I now have quite a few.
Whereabouts did he get them from.
I got some of mine from Middlesbrough.
Make sure you handle them regularly as sometimes they can become a little difficult to handle otherwise.
The 'sandy' one may be a champagne!!!!!
Obviously with pics someone will be able to tell you what they are.

it'll probably be tomorrow night when i get pics up now, was looking online and it looks similar to a champagne. Although off reading it says their colours can change slightly as they mature so will definately have to get some piccys for people to look at

he got them via pet mania just outside of middlesbrough and they ordered them in from a local breeder.so could be the same person possibly.

Wasn't sure whether the rat food would be ideal i had a vague recollection of someone saying avoid such a thing..but i cant remember which it was they said, and couldnt see the thread.was searching for ages lol. But if that'll be okay i'll keep them on that with the odd titbit.

They've been out having a nosey, very friendly, ghost the husky is quite affectionate keeps giving what can only be described as kisses lol, that probably sounds bizarre doesnt it Ruby (other half named her due to her eyes) is a little more skittish but has been out for a little while, she's now conked out on her hammock lol.

Do u think the cage above will be suitable for two weeks? T'other half bought them without my knowledge so i didnt have time to do the usually nagging..erm i mean persuasion that i normally do

In my experience, the champagne huskies go nearly white as adults as the white ticking takes over; the black/agouti ones tend to keep more of the pattern.

Husky is a pattern trait, not a colour.

ooo very pretty, will get some pics up when i get home, i think they're gorgeous. The one i was referring to as husky he got told was just a normal husky...blackish almost steel grey in some light, and white..very pretty wee things.

Had the family on the phone all morning and the first thing they all said when i told them Will had got me some rats was 'what for the snakes'

The Freddy isn't quite as big as a Jenny, but it's good for 3-4 rats. But it's got coated bars so it doesn't go dirty looking like the Jenny, and the door is centrally placed so the access is fabulous - the Jenny can be difficult to get in and out of due to ridiculous door placement.
