I think he did all he could in the circumstances, and by no means was to blame for the animal getting loose. I think we are all losing a valuable service here now, and I for one am gutted to see the end of this.
Thanks BH.

But that delivery and discovery of the missing snake was after you that evening. so 2 customers had huge delays following yourself but were very understanding.

That day I had one person who decided to go out when I was due for delivery (again I arrived bang on time) so I had to deliver to the other side of that town which cost me 45 minutes.

I then had the above which cost me 20 minutes waiting for the senders to rush together all the snakes and then 45 minutes at that delivery point looking amoungst the other boxes.

Now, all deliveries after these were on time. And that's because between the first delay and stopping at 2:20am I didn't stop for one break for myself to catch up time. The only stops I could afford after delays were for pick-ups/deliveries fuel stops and quick check on the animals to see that they were ok.

After the last delivery at 2:20am I spent 2:15hrs looking throughly around the van ripping the floors up and looking as far amoungst the chassis as best I could in the middle of an estate in the middle of the night (thanks god for bright street lamps). And I then had to get to and collect the first collection at 6am so 1.5 hrs sleep!

I'm satisfied I've done as much as I can. I feel sorry for poor old snakey though. Hope he found some where warm!!

Steve

PS

Hoggies have settled in perfectly and had their first feed last night and fed straightway with no hesitation! And their tame as can be. I've had one hiss in two weeks!

I have heard nothing but good things about this bloke and when he picked a snake up from me for another woman he was at my place the precise time he was suposed to be there and the only responsability the driver has with what is in his transport is to secure the boxes from falling. This is the same with any transport company the packing or taping is completely the responsability of the sender. It is not fair to try and tarnish an excelent reputation for a mistake on the senders part.

Packaging of animals in a secure manner is NEVER the couriers responsibility , that lies with the sender, quite frankly I would consider the loss of the snake neither the buyer or couriers fault, and I would be seeking some sort of compensation from the seller.
Being offered a refund is more than i would have expected as well

we are losing IMO the best National Reptile courier due to people assuming that EVERYTHING is down to Steve, he has been blaimed because people have sent Ill snakes, moaned at because he is 5 minutes late, and now to top it all blamed because someone could not be bothered to tape a box..........

Sorry but I am annoyed

I 100% agree with you on that

its disgusting the rubbish that has been thrown at steve

How can you blame the courier for a snake escaping that wasnt secured properly by the sender............

Steve brought 2 skunks up to me from bath it cost me £44 which is an absolute bargin price

if i had of had to get them myself it would of cost me well over £100 and many hours of travel on public transport

Steve was doing a fantastic thing for people doing such cheap runs and silly petty pathetic people have spoiled it

Its such a shame that people have to spoil and ruin such a good thing

i really dont blame him for giving up doing this after all the rubbish people have spat at him

paul chase is one of the longest breeders in the uk, and is a real nice guy.. .so maybe a few of you can walk away for a bit as its getting silly.. you simply dont know what really happened..

As someone who has transported animals with Steve I consider it my responsibility to ensure they are completely secure and unable to escape or injure themselves during the journey. MY RESPONSIBILITY , NOT the responsibility of the Courier whoever they may be .

I also have purchased hedgehogs and had them delivered to me by Steve. It has AWAYS been the responsibility of the person selling the animal to me to ensure they are being transported in a safe manner by providing a suitable carrier.

A courier delivers messages, parcels, packages etc. They don't provide the boxes, sellotape etc , etc. That is the responsibility of the sender

Both the Sender and Courier are responsible for making sure the animals they are sending/transporting are secure.

Primarily the sender has the main responsibility in providing a secure escape proof container and if this is done properly then its impossible for a snake in this case to escape without the container being damaged or tampered with.

Also as SW is advertised as an animal courier then when they receieved they should also make sure they are happy with the security of whatever live animal they are transporting. This surely is pretty obvious and I would expect this with any animal courier to check the animal are secure.

You also cannot compare SW to normal couriers that deliver parcels as they are advertised as an animal courier and therefore are transporting animals that could potencially escape.

Although in my opinion both parties have a responsibility the onus is on the sender firstly as like I said if packaged correctly then the snake wouldnt of escaped.

A snake is lost but hopefully lessons are learnt by those affected.

So by the comment in bold above I ASSUME you have seen the snake was poorly packaged?

Or are you just taking the word of one party over the other?

Just an observation thats all....................

i totally agree, as i said before i would be miffed, but mistakes can happen which is why it is always better for both parties (no matter who) to double check livestock.
