Can someone tell me what exactly you need to become a reptile courier? I went to my local council, enviromental dept. who told me to contact DEFRA which I did, that man gave me number of the animal welfare and transport dept. after telling me that he'd never heard of such thing as DEFRA approved and certainly didnt need a license. These people didnt have a clue about what you need and gave me the number of a place in Preston what deals with that sort of thing, where I spoke to a Scottish lady who told me you dont need a license as long as it was only within the U.K, no exporting, and also only captive bred animals. Licences are mainly for farm animals, type 2 being for over 8 hours, she said as long as the animals were being treated right and were in suitable containers and secure and the like, it would be fine, and it probably would be best to let your car insurance company know, so if anyone can put me straight on this, or advise I'd be grateful............confused!!!!!!!!!!!!

You do need to let your insurance company know as you are using your car for hire or reward, you also need public liability and obviously let the customs and revenue know, the defra license is now issued by animal health and is for the individual not vechicle, this part is not 100% needed
