hi, i am new to the forum and have just purchased 2 6 month old margined tortoises and the only think im having trouble finding out is how long every day to leave the heat lamp and the uv light on for and does it change for the time of year? your post only says they need to be on for 12 hours in the summer!

i must say that this thread alone has gave me more info than 3 hours of research on the net and i must thankyou.. : )

Hi and to the forum.

12 hours all year through (except when hibernating of course!). In winter thought they may tend to go to bed quite early in the evening so you can turn them off earlier if they do.

Sorry this isnt a reply its a question????? but i havent worked out out to get into the right section on this site yet.

i wondered if i dont have access to all of the wild leaves mentioned above, what green leaves are safe for my 18 month old hermann tortoise?

rocket?
cress?
spinach?
lambs lettuce?
radicchio?
endive?


please help thank you!

That indoor enclosure (First Photo Show) I tried to get it but I live In LA so they could not ship I was really sad I even sent the company an Email and asked them to send one to me.

Default Hibernation

I have a question about hibernation... do they actully go into it on their own or do they need some help for it? i dont want to hibernate my tortoise so what would i do to stop him from hibernating when the time comes?

well hibernation is only for breeding right? and i dont want to breed it, also not hibernating it cant hard it can it ?

hibernation has nothing to do with breeding and is very important to your tortoises health and growth.

:o i thought it had to be hibernated... the guy im getting it from adviced me not to hibernate it so im not sure what i should do

i dont want it to grow to big and when should i start hibernating it?
