Default Special torts...special price...£75. each

Spur Thighed Mediterranean tortoises, UK captive bred by me, Hatched July/August 07, Special price of £75. each. Why the lower than normal price??? Because of a slight imperfection/twist in their carapace/upper shell. The reason for this is occassionally elongated eggs are laid, the embryo/tort grows to the shape of the egg, hence their born with a more than normal mishaped/twist. The majority of torts will/do grow on to a normal shape in time, these torts have straightened out dramatically since birth, however they still show slight signs of mishape...The photos will illustrate this.

DEFRA article 10 certificates (In my name) supplied with each tortoise, along with my care sheets.
Their diet consisting of wild/native plants/weeds from day one, supplemented with Limestone flour, Cuttle fish/bone and Nutrobal.

Delivery- I am based in Kent, I will personally deliver up to 20 miles for free, any more miles than that, and a fuel charge will be required. I will deliver to anywhere in Kent. I will also deliver/meet at Essex, Sussex and Surrey borders. I will not courier my Tortoises. Price is a special £75. each.

The usual rules apply, read this whole advert, give owning a tortoise some thought, if you cannot make a long term commitment, then choose another type of pet....PM me for further details, but please...only if your serious.

At least one phone call will take place beforehand...

Several photos then...T.T.

They are lovely! And certainly don't look like ugly ducklings. I'm not sure about mixing species. If at a later date I wanted to put a Herman and a spur thigh together in the garden would that be ok? Or is it best to permantly keep them seperated?

I can buy an extra cage but thought might be best to ask.

indigo_rock_girl, thanks for bumping...

tishba, The simple answer, in my humble opinion, is yes...I have hibernated hatchlings as young as 4 months of age...

dragongirl, cheers your right, there certainly not ugly ducklings...
Again, just my opinion(and many other keepers too) but I would not recommend mixing species, for a number of reasons...
Worse case future scenario could be...Aggressive/Over sexed male Spur thighed, stressing out/damaging poor female Hermanns ...T.T.

How big will they grow to ? Do they stay at about 10 -11 inches or do they get bigger? Many thanks.

Good question...I shall have to find a link to photos of their parents on here, I must have posted adult pics in the past...

The females have the potential to weigh in at 3 kilos/6.6lbs, the males are somewhat smaller, approx. two thirds the size of the females, and their length would not excceed 12"/30cm...But to attain adult size, your looking at least 15 to 25 years down the line, and even at 25 years of age, I would consider that to be of a "young adult"...Cheers...T.T.

Other than the obvious need to quarantine every new addition. i have a group of female hermanns and spur thighs at home and have no bother other than the occasional dominance thing. Been keeping torts for 40 years.
