They are lovely! And certainly don't look like ugly ducklings. I'm not sure about mixing species. If at a later date I wanted to put a Herman and a spur thigh together in the garden would that be ok? Or is it best to permantly keep them seperated?
I can buy an extra cage but thought might be best to ask. |

indigo_rock_girl, thanks for bumping...
tishba, The simple answer, in my humble opinion, is yes...I have hibernated hatchlings as young as 4 months of age... dragongirl, cheers your right, there certainly not ugly ducklings... Again, just my opinion(and many other keepers too) but I would not recommend mixing species, for a number of reasons... Worse case future scenario could be...Aggressive/Over sexed male Spur thighed, stressing out/damaging poor female Hermanns ...T.T.

...The females have the potential to weigh in at 3 kilos/6.6lbs, the males are somewhat smaller, approx. two thirds the size of the females, and their length would not excceed 12"/30cm...But to attain adult size, your looking at least 15 to 25 years down the line, and even at 25 years of age, I would consider that to be of a "young adult"...Cheers...T.T.

Other than the obvious need to quarantine every new addition. i have a group of female hermanns and spur thighs at home and have no bother other than the occasional dominance thing. Been keeping torts for 40 years.
