Great advice, thanks, I have just finished building my outdoor enclosure for my 1 year old Spur-thigh, she seems to love it:

Default shed or not?

i was just wondering if it is a good idea to keep a hermann tortoise in the shed all year round. it will be water proof and heated connected to an outdoor pen.

This is my enclosure that hubby built for my two hermans, we have since put a mesh lid on top.

Thought I'd add photos of the enclosure for my Spur Thigh and Hermanns. They've lived in it a year now and love basking in the greenhouse then charging round the outdoor part.
They're winding down and it's a miserable day hence the pile of wilting weeds.

I'm curious if anyone can provide any evidence to even suggest this might be true. I know there are some tortoise keepers who practice better safe than sorry but I haven't found that this statement is anywhere near the truth.

Been using turf for as long as I've been keeping tortoises and I've found there seems to be no more risk to the tortoises than the veggies we eat.

Hi,

I could not find a single supplier of turf, that did not use weed killer and lawn feed to make it, which is very harmful to torts but thanks for the idea

Hi. You say that a tortoise should not be left outside, overnight in an unheated house. Is this really true? My 50 year old spur-thighed tortoise has been sleeping outside in an unheated (but well insulated) small wooden house since we've had here (obviously not during winter, just spring and summer ) and I've never been aware of any problems this has caused to her or her health. Would you still advise against this?

Thanks a lot
