Default Pancake Tortoise

This is the final catch up on my posts... for today.

I've got this cool observation on Pancake tortoises. A friend gave me a pair. I had no interest in them before that because they are freaky and had a reputation for being hard to acclimate.

Well... I got a pair... the personality and behavior is amazing.

One day I come into my Herp room and find this...

I immediately checked her out to make sure there is no damage... there was zero damage... she fell about 6 feet... roughly 2 meters... no damage at all. I couldn't imagine how she did it... She showed me...

These animals are obviously designed to climb...

This is exactly how she did it. You can see how she is at the mid point. She fell... 6+ feet... not in this shot... I'm not that mean...

You can see that this tortoise functions under no fear...

They have since been moved to tables with higher sides.

Ed

Oh my, six foot is a pretty impressive drop for such a little tortoise. Hopefully with the move they will no longer be try to fly.

Are they're shells soft? Do you think another species of tortoise would have had a 'harder landing'

Hello Ed
My pair are a nightmare we had to put a wire mess over the top of their enclosure.

I think they're pretty amazing, not freaky. Look at the limbs on the pic of the one climbing... so different to other species.

Surely you knew they were climbers before you got them? Even an extreme novice like me knows that... flexible shells and limbs that have evolved to climb.

Great pics... the shell is so pretty on the female. Do you intend to breed your pair?
