personally?? i dont see anything wrong with the legal importation of captive bred tortoises. as long as they are legal and bred by the hundreds they reduce the amount of illegal imports. some tortoise people will tell you that they are the spawn of the devil, riddled with disease and will die beforethey have even been taken outof the petshop viv. but i had my very first pair of slovenian tortoises and they were healthy, robust and packed full of personality. yes they had worms, but i treat every animal that comes into my house to a fecal swab to rule out and eliminate any nasties. even UK cb torts have worms!
however, i CHOOSE to buy uk cb wherever possible as there is a lesser chance of them having a severe parasitic load. and the diet will have been better from the very start of there life. i like to know the history of an animal before i part with any cash, but have taken in all sorts of rehomers in the past. the wild caught ones are the hardest to deal with, they take ages to acclimatise, are reluctant feeders and dont adapt well to the channge.
