Housing / Housemate Question. . . .

Hi all,

Quick newbie question about tortoises!!, I have noticed lately that Alot of keepers, breeders and Zoo's keep tortoises in Viv's with certain species of lizards e.g beardies, shinglebacks, skinks and uromastyx.

Is this acceptable by you guys? I am soon to be creating a large vivarium for my uromastyx and if this is acceptable then what would be the best tortoise to keep in the habitat.

P.S the Viv will be 5X3 for 2 uromastyx. This will be huge for them as they currently live in a 3X2

mixing species can be done but it takes a HUGE amount of space and research. most petshops have mixed species tanks for no reason other than more animals in less space=more proffit!

tortoises will do much better in an open topped table or pen in 90% of the time. the odd weird exception is torts like redfoots that need high humidity. not really commonly done to mix species and i hagve to say i havent yet seen a mixed display that was done well with both species requirements taken into account.
