Default Why does my tortoise just keep trying to escape!!

hey all,

I have now got my tortoise(hardcore) in his new outside enclosure but all he wants to do is escape!
His enclosure is huge about 3m by 4m its def big enough!

Does anyone know why he does this or will he settle when he relises theres no way out? I feel sorry for the lil chap!

Can he see out of the sides?.. if so, that will be the reason..
If not, i dunno lol

hi i find that when first put into a new environment they will test the boundaries, they are terrible for the first couple of weeks, then they do it less and less over time.this is really a pain when they first hatch and they seem to spend mmore time on their backs than the correct way up.if they can see out they will continue with this behaiour for a much longer time

Have you put a hide in there ,he could be looking for a cave .

get soem of that cheap garden edging on a roll. its only a few pounds but will stop him being able to see through the fence. he will learn that he cant get through, but they DO NOT understand see through barriers!

he seems to be settleing in now, He is eating realli well and drinking! not trying to escape today! Thanks for all help peeps

hi my torts were like this when theywere in a rabbit run,they wanted to get out and the actually did manage it,he /she will settle in time
