i have been doing alot of research on them in the last few weeks. they need a very specific temperature range and arent to be handled much as the stress can damage them. the one i was going to buy had been kept in a viv as thats the only way they couldkeep the temps stable. she is very active and healthy but i cant take the viv with me so would have to move her

I have spoken to Ed and sarah via email and i have decided i am not going to get the one i was offered. I just couldnt deal with her dying on me, Ed said they had been heartbreakers for him, and i dont really want to join that club! i am going to go ahead and reserve two female pancake tortoises instead. they sound much more my type of tortoise, and rather entertaining too.

are you thinking of getting one? they are really beautiful animals.

I keep mine in an open topped enclosure they do really well breed and have great growth.

I cant condem vivs for these guys either as long as all the correct facilties are in place, but table tops are my first choice.

They are easy to cater for but research well before taking them on

really? ithought they were pretty active. i spoke to a few people and they said they were fun to watch. dont like the idea of watching an empty space trying to figure out where they are. i would be paranoid they had escaped! what sort of enclosure do you have set up for yours sarah? some people say stack it high and completely covered and others say keep it relatively low profile. whats yours like?

I have a pair about 7 years old, pancakes have softer shells not like normal tortoises.

In the wild they woudl run in between rocks and inflate themselves so they get stuck and no preditors can get them.

Now mine were WC i brought them of someone in the UK. Now Cb pancakes might be totally different.

You really need a high sided enclosure with lot of rocks to hide in between. However i put wire mesh over my enclosure.

The amazing thing about pancakes it their ablity to run god can they go, also their ability to flip themselves over.
