They are sensitive to low frequency sounds. I saw a talk recently on Gopher tortoises where it is suspected that they communicate using low frequency sound... Ray Ashton gave the talk.
I don't think a vacuum would hurt their ears. Ed |

This might help more... if you are into Hip-Hop and crank up the base... that would probably hurt the animal...
Frequency is the key... their ears are designed for low frequency hearing... Loud low frequency... would probably be uncomfortable to a tortoise. ed |

my torts like the tv and music,
we have tested them,i turn the tv and lights ect on and andy was watching them soon as they herd us they would get up and want to be out of their table to see what we were doing. they also know when its dinner time aswell they seem to know when i coming through the door with it wired
