Default 'pyramiding'

Today I got in two large leopard tortoises in as rescues. They both have pyramiding of the scutes, but so far other than that appear ok. Obviously can't see and internal damage to kidneys or liver, so fingers crossed their internal organs will be ok.
Their owner did give them lots of TLC and generally gave them great care including UV, but what she didn't realise is that the dried food (Trex 100% veg) was too 'rich' in protein if the torts eat large amounts. What i am saying is that even though it has small amounts of protein in, if eaten in large quantities becomes too larger quantity of protein. The previous owner did mix the dried food with fresh food but the results are the pyramiding.
Personally I advise anyone to stay away from dried tortoise foods.

Do they walk very tall from the ground as though on tip toes? Leopards are very difficult to grow indoors with smooth shells. I would have bloods done on them to assess internal damage if it is suspected.

No Sue they walk normally. What would walking tall mean out of curiousity?

For leopards, walking tall on tip toes is normal. Walking more like a Med tort is abnormal for them and may indicate internal problems
