Default Remember the twins...good news, sad news...

Unfortunately, only one of the twins developed fully (as was indicated by candling the egg in the early stages).

The good news is that one healthy average size Spur thighed Ibera baby hatched, and is doing great.

Here are several photos of the outcome, you can see the under developed twin still attached in the 1st photo, within 48 hours, it had shrunk in size. I removed the twin embryo with relative ease, and the fully developed hatchling absorbed the yolk sac, as per norm.

This is the 2nd time I have incubated twins, with the same result, except the previous time was a Hermanns, that embryo was found in the egg, after the baby had hatched out completely.

Several photos...T.T.

In the 2nd photo, I am giving the hatchling a chance to drink some water, via syringe

3rd photo shows size of shrunken twin embryo...yep, thats a 5 pence coin

wow, what a shame. is the hatchling rate of twins very low? i know in humans its estimated that 8% of us started of life as a twin before one of the embryos failed. How common is a twin egg?

gtm, cheers mate...

tinkerbruce, I have no data on twin torts etc. There are several tort keepers on here who have also had twins, but I believe the survival rate is low?...

Just found this twin thread on the forum though- http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/turtl...ml#post2297015

So its not always failure for twins... Hoorah ...T.T.
