Unhappy Yellow bellied turtle

Hi, my turtle escaped from his tank and fell off the kitchen unit onto the floor. He has a crack on his shell, what should I do and will he be ok?

Hi, I'm sorry your first post is a plea for help.

I don't keep turtles so can't be any help I'm afraid other than to say I'm sure one of the turtle keepers will be along later and can offer help.

From what I've read in the past it's best to take them out of the tank and keep them dry if they have any injury and that you can treat any damage with iodine. I would say though that if it's a large crack then a vet visit may be your best bet.

Good luck... I hope someone will be around soon to give you some advice.

You must take your little guy to the vet ASAP, please.

Is it, or was it, bleeding? If so then I would recommend a trip to a herp specialist vet, it may need antibiotics.

If it's just a simple crack then it may be possible to treat it yourself, you need to clean it and apply iodine solution, or Betadine gel, then let the turt dry out in a warm place for an hour or two. Repet this daily until it heals.

In the meantime it should go without saying that the water needs to be kept perfectly clean to avoid infection.

Can you post some photos of the turt and setup?
