Default pyramiding

Dunno about the rest of you but today (sorry I mean saturday I am being a night owl again!) I had another 2 tort rescues in, both Hermanns but both had pyramiding and the poor little mites are only young! Seems such a shame to have these deformities when they can be prevented.

i agree it is preventable but not as easy as you might think without the correct environment and diet. nowadays with high uv combi lamps and weed seeds available for those unable to find weeds close to home it is easier than years ago,and of course some species are still more difficult than others.

Thank heavens for rescue services like yourself then eh?Youre not gonna be able to sort out the pyramidding overnight but at least now theyll have a decent opportunity for a good diet, correct lighting etc.

i had a adult female rehomed to me 2 days ago she has been fed supermarket food and was kept in a vivarium for a short period. She has a lovely shell. Thats two adult females in the space of 2 months both with lovely shells fed wrong and kept wrong, but god knows what damage has been done to their insides

Would love to see pictures of your two

Oooh helen, I would love to see the pics. There is also a lot of research to into humidity affecting pyramiding. For me having read and weighed up various articles, at them moment I am choosing to go along with the assumption that it might be both. So humid hides and and a healthy diet all round eh!!!

I took on this one not so long ago, he is a 2003 CB. I call him Frisbee hes very flat and out of shape. He was kept in a viv, had no outside life, no suppliments, no UV and fed on pellets and fruit. He is slowly bulilding up some strength in his back end which is very weak and can also now hold his penis in where it should be which he couldn't do on coming here.

If the shells were spot on and all appeared to be fine, what makes you think anything WAS wrong with their insides? Have you had bloods done to ascertain any damage?

There are 3 hermanns here with pyramiding but the worse pryamiding would be with 2 Leopards that spent their life in a shed, wasn't outside ever and fed on dried pellets.
