Yes, I agree, I wouldn't buy ready mixed nutrabol and limestone flour without dates and in a sealed container.
I think the seeds are great though!

Hi, thanks for the replies - I must admit Ive decided to pull the plug on the limestone/nutrobal mix - have not got around yet to removing it from the listing - the dried flowers and herbs I must stress are not to be used as a main food source for your tortoise - I agree that fresh is best - I would however reccomend it be used as a supplement to be lightly sprinkled over their usual weeds as an extra boost of vitamins and minerals a lot of these dried herbs contain a good a large amount of things such as calcium and vitamin A (needed for bone formation). Seems to work for my tortoises!!!
Also it would be great if you could perhaps send me some ideas as to what else you would like to see in there - many thanks.

I would like to see some tortoise fixtures, like Hides, Waterdishes, Bulbs,
You should also put some informative links in your listings so that people searching for tortoise products will read them and be informed

***the dried flowers and herbs I must stress are not to be used as a main food source for your tortoise - I agree that fresh is best - I would however reccomend it be used as a supplement to be lightly sprinkled over their usual weeds as an extra boost of vitamins and minerals***

I would be very wary of using anything like this without some scientific eveidence to back up these claims. If you are a company which is selling these products under license with an analysis on the label to substantiate any claims, then we may have something to go on. If however, these are just foods listed as OK for tortoises to eat in the wild state then I would be very wary, as guess work with dried products can be extremely harmful and even fatal in some cirmcumstances. What contains a good ratio of nutrients when fresh can be extremely harmful when dried. if this is guess work then I would urge you to think again and ask a recognised expert such as Adny Highfield or Annie Lancaster what they think of feeding this stuff.

***a lot of these dried herbs contain a good a large amount of things such as calcium and vitamin A (needed for bone formation). Seems to work for my tortoises!!!***

But how do you know if it works for your tortoises unless you have been feeding them this for many years? I have known of tortoises eating a certain plant/diet for years before showing signs of ill health. The very make up and metabolism of chelonia, means tht it can take several years for such ill effects to show. The words 'a good large amount of such things as calcium and vitamin A', just go to show how harmful this can be. If it is high in vitamin A in it's natural form then imagine how it could affect a tortoise in it's dried form. A tortoise with vitamin A overdose can die It is not equipped to handle this.

***Also it would be great if you could perhaps send me some ideas as to what else you would like to see in there - many thanks.***

As Josh says, more useful items at realistic prices would be better, but prices would have to be competitive as there are already so many really good sellers out there with excellent after sales service. Sorry to sound negative but you really cannot mess around with tortoises health, and there do seem to be a lot of people suddenly selling on ebay. As they cannot be making much of a profit I cannot really see a good reason for this other than misguided well intended advice. Such organisations as the Tortoise Trust have spent many many years carefully researching the needs of tortoises and for novices to come along and make claims that a totally different diet is good, is quite frankly a bit worrying. Qquite frankly there is no need to add anything to the diet of a tortoise other than what is growing wild in all but the coldest of countries.
