Dont keep snappers personally but would like to at some point i had a few ideas regarding proofing heaters/filters,
Use a pond filter,
-The filter is outside the pond away from the snapper
- plus the amount of waste snappers produce a large amount of filtration would be needed
- youd probably still need to do water changes and clean the filter from time to time

The heaters i thought just use some mesh similar to what you use for bulb protecters but waterproofed to prevent rust,

Have thought about keeping them in a greenhouse a large one with a built in pond, admittedly an expensive one but given the size of a large snapper say 18inches if its a common/ 3ftish if it an alli snapper,

Hope this gives you some ideas,

Pre-formed ponds for collection

some ideas for keeping a large snapper in.
With these i thought i could build a large stand for them to sit in for an indoor enclosure as oppose to an outdoor one,

I use Large 120cm X 120 cm X 64cm deep fibre glass tanks, with a sump waste. These were originally from a Fish Keeping project at a local university. They are mounted in wooden frames and have pond filtration system operating in them. I currently use three of these setups, two outside for Summer accomodation, and one set up in my Tropical house.
Being strong and of robust construction, they serve well as enclosures and are easy to maintain.
However, I am sure that domestic Plastic, Water tanks could be used to good effect. They would be good for the animals, but probably not that aesthetically pleasing to the eye?

I have one of those 1000 lt white plastic containers in the metal caging, that has been cut down, this can be cladded with jabalite then timber, to help maintain heat and be better on the eye. it holds about 500lts with a good 12" of space above water level, which I will top with a caged lid of some sort (will have to work that one out). If I use a sump with this what sort of size am I looking at? and will I be able to heat the water in the sump? loving your tropical house, that is what I'm planning for the future, cheers Mandy

the only prob is they move every thing would have to be welded down she already taking my internal fillter apart.
