Default bubbly eyes on tortoise

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be.

My tort, when he wakes up for half an hour or so, his one eye has bubbles in it.

Is this just like sleep in his eyes? any perfectly ok or might there be something wrong with him?

Is it best to wipe his eyes gently with a wet cotton bud or something?

Thanks for the help

That sometimes happens to mine. When I went to the vet I was told it was just normal moisture in the eye (tears I guess!). Better to get it checked by a vet though to be sure

some torts can have bubbly eyes with sero illeffects. how long have you hadhim and have you ever noticed it before?

i have three leos that tend to have one or both eyes that go bubly occassionally. if its restricted to the corner of the eye and is not accompanied by any redness then wioe the eyes with cool boiled water and cotton wool ( seperate piece for each eye). if ot goes then good, if it comes back recurrently all the time, get it checked on monday.

Thanks for the replys...

We have had him 2 weeks, and only seems to be there when he first wakes up.

There is no redness at all in either of the eyes.

if it was me, and its just on waking then dont worry about it for now. clean his eyes when he wakes up just so you can monitor if it comes back or stays away. the first sign of redness or progression and get him to a vets.

fantapants...

Thats what were doing, just wanted to see what other people thought on here.

When we clean them on a morning, as long as he doesnt go back to sleep (which he often does!) it does stay away.

Were keeping a very close eye on him at the moment, as were not sure to how he has been kept in the past.

It depends on the species - perfectly normal in leos.

one of my hermanns has a little sleep in his eye every time he wakesup. so does one of my pancakes. I thought it was something specific to an individual as opposed to species specific ( but i do know its more common in leos, especially gravid leos!).
