Red face New leopard tortoise help!

Hi there i got my little leopard tortie yesterday and i am over the moon with him but i just needed alittle advice. I named him Kobe witch ( i think lol) is tortoise in African, he seems to be settling in, hes eating and walking around his brand new enclosure but he doesn't seem to have much energy, unless hes getting used to the new routine, and when i pick him up when hes sleeping he doesn't open his eyes for ages like 10 mins, is this normal?

He weighs in at 386g approx and is 5inch shell lengh

I think i will find a vet locally and get him a check up and ill try take a poo with me lol when he dose one, i give him a bath every day so hopefully i will get one soon

Here are some pics but they are far from good

Thanks for ur help

ahhhh, i know steve at the living rainforest well. i9 have a few lovely animals from him. i used to live just down the road from there and my mum still does. it all sounds like your set up is fine. i WOULD get a fecal sample checked at the vets just because petshops have such a high turn over they cant check all the animals. otherwise, just et him settle in and feed him on 30%weeds and the rest grass and finely chopped hay. offer him a humid hide too, near to the heat.

any grass is fine for him as long as its not been treated with chemicals. as he is so small it may be worth you chopping the hay up really small with scissors or a blender. then wet the weeds and roll them in the hay and mix them with the grass. then he cant push the bits he doesnt like out of the way!

may be worth you asking the vet to treat him for nematodes AND protozoa. both can be just as damaging but are easily treated to stop problems and eventually fatalities. if you need any more advice, feel free to PM me.

hi first of all i agree with Ali about the vet check ,there is a good chance this tortoise was wild caught so is very likely to have parasites.5" is 127mm so 386g although acceptable is not what i would call heavy to a nicely domed animal like yours.i would give a good long upto 20 mins soak daily also clean fresh water available 24/7 that your tortoise can get right into its self.background temperature is important and needs to be 22c-24c minimum daily dropping no lower than about 20c overnight.
