Default where did you get your tortoise?

just curious, i have been to 4 reptile/aquatic shops, they all keep their tortoise and turtles in a somewhat incorrect way, the worst one is actually killing them.
I have seen tortoise with dry water bowl, dry vegetables (probably 2-3 days unchanged) and dirty water with turtles (probably never changed).

Most people here suggest getting them from breeders. But if everybody did that, how could all the reptile shops survive?

I had all three of mine from Wizzasmum... and they are wonderful.

All our reps have been bought from breeders as I prefer to have the invaluable back up of a good breeder should I ever need it.

Breeder (reputable) or rescue is the way to go i think.

Pet shops will always have their trade in torts, untill a ban come into action like with cats and dogs. They will always get the 'impulse buys' from families with children who want a new pet.

Just my views anyway, for what they count for....

True! I paid a lot more for buying from bed pet shop!
Everybody should learn that. I am one sad example of NOT GETTING TTs FROM BREEDERS!

Well the first one was from the garden centre....
2nd was sourced through mendip monsters who sourced my little girl from a breeder in Essex (not all reptile shops are bad he loves his reps and only supplies uk captive from sources he knows)
3rd was a re homer from a old lady who was no longer able to care for her.

all of mine are Rescues...

Couple were rehomed to me coz the previous owners didnt have time anymore...

Couple were rehomed, and were (not deliberately), mistreated..

But i always thought it would be better to offer a home to an unwanted rather than add to the pet trade..
If i were to buy one, i would definately buy from a breeder..
