Smile Tortoise - Bad leg

This is my first post so please bear with me,I inherited a tortoise from my mum who passed away.He is well in himself, feeding good, etc but lately he has been dragging his leg.He will let me touch it and i can see nothing physically wrong with it.

He is around 35 years old, i don't know what type of tortoise he is. Can anyone advise me of what to do next? other than the vets and i know they will want to xray etc.My finances will not sketch to that.I only work part time and have a disabled husband to care for.

Many Thanks for any advice in advance.

I've moved this from the picture section for you as you will get more help here.

I'm sorry to hear you've inherited the tort in such sad circumstances.

I think a vet visit is probably your best bet... if you ring them up first and explain your circumstances they may be willing to let you pay in installments.

Sorry for the circumstances surrounding you getting this tortoise.

I have to say that this tortoise does need to see a vet to ascertain exactly what is wrong with the leg.

What area do you live in and a tort specialist vet can be recommended.

Hi
You say you cannot afford the vets bills, well you know in your heart that this is what he needs so why not rehome him to the tortoise trust? they will take care of him , it is not nice to see him suffer so do try and do the right thing it wont fix itself

I really struggle to understand how someone could make this suggestion when a new user has joined the forum asking for help... they've taken the time and trouble to find us and post a thread and for someone to suggest they rehome their tortoise seems to me to be very unkind. The majority of vets will offer a payment plan and the OP may find that a vet visit isn't as costly as she thinks.

I was not being unkind that was not my intention
She has already stated that taking the tortoise to the vets is not an option she may not know about the tortoise trust this could be another option for her
