Default Mating

Ok, so my male YBS has been trying to mate with my female Mississippi Map. Is this unusual? He does "fan" her a lot but recently I have noticed him trying to mount her! As far as I know there has been no mating, but he is trying his best. I thought that different species won't mate with each other?

If they can't find a female of their own species then a randy male will try to mate with anything that looks vaguely like another turt, they're not fussy!

She doesn't seem to be interested at all though, and it looks like he is getting a bit frustrated, which has me a bit worried that he may bite or harm her.

Always a potential problem when you have too few males to females, keep an eye on them and if he pesters her incessantly or even injures her then you'll need to seperate them.
