Default Plants for Indoor Enclosures??

Hi there,

Im thinking of getting a horsefield / hermans soon.
Was just wondering if it is ok to have the plants in with the tortoises?
Just that I read somewhere they eat everything put in front of them! Will they over-eat to the extent of making themselves ill?

Nicola

Horsfields are more likely to demolish them quickly than Hermanns so I'd say it depends on what species you decide on.

Safe plants to have in there are pansies, aloe vera, echevera, opuntia cacti, dwarf hebes. Remember through summer people keep them in planted outdoor enclosure though so they'll eat whatever they want then.

How come Aloe vera, echevera, opuntia cacti and dwarf hebes ok Tina? I'm not going against you, just trying to understand how come those platns are ok for them. Arent those more desert type plants, rather then meditteranean (sP)?
could you explain please, i'm thinking about adding some plants in, and just want to understand why these plants. thank you

Because they're all non-toxic so safe for them to eat and acceptable as part of their diet (especially during winter when weeds are scarce).

These are good lists to stick by for when you're planting up (indoors or outdoors).

edible plants

Diet and healthy growth

As this thread is nearly two years old I'd think the OP has already planted a few choice plants by now eh
