A guy came over this morning, saw a plea for help on a local forum...
Was surprised how much he dug in a couple of hours..as i need a depth of 4.5' and a substrate for over wintering, i thought it had to be a mini digger job..ok still a lot to do but he worked hard! Thinking of going down 3.5' and a ' above....BUT does it have to be 4.5 below the whole surface of the ground for the right temp? better to know now than get it wrong. although he said to use the old soil, to make the 1' above surface, rather than say using bricks n cement to make the above ground level.... He mentioned the pond for heavy rain, how to a make a slight dip to run out...is that needed, or should i not worry? Still working out the best way to tuck the liner under, and out old carpet around before the liner... Wondering what will look good around the edge, a much bigger version of this with the stones? With big rocks around the edge (which still climbed over!) The whole area will be fenced and gated off, so impossible to fall in etc. Also, as im going 15x6x4.5 does the edges have to drop straight down, or can the pond slope, so the middle say 5' accross the bottom be 4.5' deep? \____/ or is [_________] better? Still trying to work out best way to make a big island for the middle, esp for 10 turts, mostly big females...lots of bark or a floaty planty island like Graham has... well nows it cracking on!! hopefully completed in a month! |
