Hi, As you probably know its really hard to age a tort...
But I have reds and i would say that Horatio Is a Boy, Hes also a Cherryhead!.. Colossus Is at the moment looking female again this may change.. And again i think she may be a Cherryhead too.. What colour is Georges Plastron ?.. And what colour are his nostrils?... From what i can see i would say George is a 'normal' redfoot, There is no difference in care, The difference comes from where the torts originate from, Cherryheads are from Brazil, Cherryheads are gorgeous i have 2... They look great ... x x

Hi, thanks for your reply, I thought Horatio might be male too, he seems wider around the tail than colossus, but there isn't a concave shape at all yet. And I thought Horatio was a cherry head too cos of the marbling but wasn't so sure about colossus, but its starting to come through on his shell. George is a normal, I've seen his parents, I got him off blazingtortoise last summer. I'd love to know how old they were though.
How old are yours? Love to see some pics |

Colossus who's scl is 12cm is only 355g, horatio (10.5cm) is 267g and George (8.5cm) is 110g- Colossus is a lot lighter than yours who's the same length. Is there any sort of guild to show you how much they should weigh compared to the length?

I asked that same question on an american website and a guy gave me a formula, Its a guide to optimum weight , So DONT worry if yours are lighter.. If they are healthy and active and gaining weight each month, then your doing fine... I just like to use the formula to check..
Heres the formula... straightline carapace length (in cm) cubed x .191 = expected weight in grams heres where the guys info came from: Donoghue, S., 1997. "Nutritional status of tortoises using morphometrics to assess body condition." Vivarium Magazine, Volume 8 No. 2.
