Question Ants and Torts

This might be a stupid question to ask but are torts okay with ants?

I assume they are but i just want to make sure. I have been digging the garden up and putting mesh under the mud so the torts cant dig away but 2 days after doing this a ants nest has appeared inside where the enclosure will be.

I put the torts in there to see if the ants annoyed them but even though the ants went on the torts they didnt seem bothered by it.

Would a ant biting a tort cause the torts problems?

Any help appreciated!

No it will not cause problems unless you are in a country where there are fire ants.

It's not too pleasant for the ants but if you want to get rid of them without using chemicals etc you can just pour a kettle of boiling water down the nest (sorry in advance to the ant lovers amongst you )

Boiling water doesn't work that well to be honest. Ants are super super hardy and will recover quickly.

However, peppermint oil is one things ants hate. We had an ant invasion in our kitchen a few years ago, so we put cotton wool down with drops of peppermint oil along where the ants were travelling and within 2 days all the ants were gone.

However, I would only do this when your torts are not near as I do not know if peppermint oil would be OK for them to breathe in as its very very strong

I had the same problem, thousand of ants in the hill my female lays her eggs, I chucked my chicken in there for a couple of days (while the weather was poor and the torts were inside) and she managed to munch her way through all of them
