Hi Sue

Congrats on your 2 new babies!

The diet that you are feeding them needs to stopped. You should feed them a more weed based diet, with salad leaves being given as an occassional treat.

Tortoise Food/ Diet It is impor

Also it can be a good few years, even 5-6 before you can tell what sex they are. There is no way at 1 or even 2 you can tell what sex your torts are.

Congratulations on your new additions - cant wait to see some pics.

Their diets really should consist of weeds such as dandelions etc - there is a sticky on the forum which has a big list of the weeds you should feed your tort - occationally i give mine cucumber and carrot and apple but only once in a while as it not really a stable diet for them. Also, you can get suppliments for their food - neutrobal us good and a cuttle fish not only provides them with calcium but helps to keep their beaks down too!!

Hope this helps and congratulations once again

They're far too young to sex under a year old and even at 2 years old. You can hazard guesses based on the angle of their anal scutes but that's about it at that young age. I'm useless at thinking up names for my own so I'll leave you to yours!

Books are confusing aren't they when they all contradict each other?

No they don't eat meat... but they will eat the odd slug or worm when they're in the garden.

A natural weed/plant diet is what I feed, these lists will give you some ideas on what to use... the link provides a link to another list as well...

edible plants

Try to steer clear of the foods you've mentioned. You should be able to find plenty of weeds at this time of year... if you pick a good amount and soak them in water then wrap them in a plastic bag they'll last for up to a week in your salad drawer. Aim for as much variety as possible and sprinkle them with nutrobal.

This is a very useful guide for you to read too as a new owner...

Good luck with your new additions... I hope you'll post some pictures of them for us.
