vivariums for tortoises ???

[LEOPARD GECKO CRAZY]

i have a 2 year old tortoise female and shes still quite small. bout size of hand.

i have had her in a vivarium all her life and sometimes letting her outside in the summer.

i thought this was ok and then i was doing some reserch and found out they need to be outside !!!

i have a cat and she will kill enything that moves .

my tort is an escape artist.

and my dog would knock the tort around.


what should i do with the tort tank.


feel such an idiot for listening to a bloody pet shop.

you can build a secure outdoor enclosure

Yep, you need to build an outdoor pen that is predator proof - this is mine so you can see what I mean;

Only thing you can't see are the lids which are placed on top of the pens.




Also, if it was me I would change the viv for an open topped tortoise table

Agree with the above for outdoors but for inside use a table top emclosure
with wire mesh over the top so cat can't get in.

I use a table top enclosure from ebay about £50 but no mess cause i don't have a cat.

you can always use a indoor rabbit cage with a wire roof they are ideal for little torts and you can get them quite big, the wire top also gives you somewhere to hang the lights from and the sides are solid high enough up so torty can't see out, you might even find one of these on freecycle for free.

Hi Laura, have a look through the sticky at the top of the page and you'll find loads of safe plants that you can plant for decor and/or food

You can keep torts in a vivarium as long as it is big enough and well ventilated. As they dont jump you can replace the top with a screen and the front glass too if necessary for little cost. Obviously during the summer months an outdoor safe enclosure is the very best.
