Cool Would it be okay to keep a juvenile Hermann Tortoise in a viv if I took the top off ?

Hello,

If it's possible, would it be okay to keep one juvenile Hermann Tortoise in a vivarium if I took the top off of it ?

Thanks.

If I kept it in a open topped viv it would be at least 48" length.

If it was not a glass-type vivarium then it should be okay provided there is adequate ventillation. You really need to say how big the tank is though- as a small fish-tank often does not provide the proper space required to get a good temp gradient.

Tortoises do not understand glass and will doubtlessly spent ages trying to get out, stressing it out in the process.

Do you already have a 4ft tank? They are very expensive compared to a tortoise table.

If the tank you would buy is 48", then thats 4 ft.

You can buy 4ft rabbit cages much cheaper than vivariums (I've seen them for under £60) and building a tortoise table would be even cheaper.

I believe that 4ft vivariums are over £100, and rabbit cage/tortoise tablee would probably be better suited for a tortoise!

I've been looking at those cages.
