Default African helmeted turtle

How much would you be expect to pay for one of these?

Looking at getting one, but dont want to get ripped off.
I assume the price will be different regarding CB, LTC and WC.

Thanks

They typically sell for around £20-£25, most will be CFs I think as they are very easy to breed.

Certainly £25-£30 is not a bad price. As Graham says the young are imported as "Captive Farmed" from West Africa, though I have never seen much info on this practice. They are suitable species for a Semi tropical set up and should be kept with higher water temperatures than the North American Cooters and Sliders. I recommend water temp of 24-26 degrees Centigrade.
Good Website, with insight into their care is Pelusios.com

She has to have been thinking of something else!

For ease of keeping and sheer entertainment value I would recommend a Musk, only a modest size tank required, no heating, very hardy little chaps.

Helmeteds are easy too but being sub-tropical they do require heating.

Im all good with there requirements having had loads of lizards, few snakes and tropical & marine fish, so care is no problem =]]

Im sure she was talking about them as they were the shop pets and we were talking about them in front of the tank lol
As we got talking more about them i said 'so how much would one of these set me back', her answer was...'well i can get them for around £250 trade, but they will normally run you about £400 retail'

Her reasoning was that they are fairly rare, i kinda looked at her sideways.

tbh though this is coming from a rep shop that said red eyed croc skinks and pygmy chams arent availible CB...
