Just reeding the article 10 for my new Hermans and they say they are only valid for the person named in box 1(holder). Do I need to get these changed in to my name as they are now in my possession as the keeper or do I just wait until they are 100mm long when they have to be changed any way.

There's no need to change them now really - they only need to be in your name if you're selling them or breeding from them and want to sell the hatchlings. I haven't changed any of my Thb's certs into my name yet... I'm going to wait until they're microchipped. If you change them now, then again when you chip you'll be paying the fee twice as well.

This is largely misleading info as they are relevant to that tortoise UNTIL you wish to change the details.

The still do not have to be changed at 100mm. In my opinion and that of most vets, this is still far too small to chip a tortoise. If you decide to sell it or breed from it in the future you do need to have it chipped at any time after that size has been reached and you then will apply for new certs in your own name. Hang on to those papers and you will not have a problem in the future.
Hope this helps

As CITES do not understnad half of their own rules, it's amazing that they then expect others to do so. I have spoken to several different people at CITES and DEFRA and half the time, the others do not know what the previous one is talking about. This is why so many illegal torts find their way into the country.

Thanks Sue

I just wish they could publish something so everyone was able to interpret the rules.
